Missed last week’s update because of some drama (although I did manage to get an Out of Context out). We’re back up and running.

Urgh, kind of regretting the stylistic choice I made for text now. Oh well, this is the last one, so look forward to actual art again next week.

Today’s comic is a bit of a whiplash of silly to serious. The article that Maly linked Dee is a shortened version of http://worldnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/02/10303961-former-khmer-rouge-jailers-sentence-increased-will-spend-life-in-prison

Specifically the article is about how a member of the Khmer Rouge party that ruled Cambodia in a reign of massive genocide and cultural destruction was recently sentenced to life in prison. It’s been a long fraught road trying to bring justice to the people responsible for the death of two million of Khmer citizens.

Maly and Dee know next to nothing about the Khmer Rouge firsthand; they were born after their parents were already living in the US (Maly’s parents were living there well before the start of the Khmer Rouge’s reign, but Dee’s parents moved right at the start). Still, tracing ancestry back to a country where one in five people lost their lives they both lost several relatives in the occupation.

Somewhere there is someone that is happy at being prompted to spend several hours reading wikipedia articles in order to understand a few terrible jokes.

A bit late on that ‘one a week’ schedule, but with the discovery of Manga Studio 4 EX I think my drawing process will be a heck of a lot smoother from here on out.
