Ah, a return to quality art. Finally, an experimentation with art that actually made it look good. Just as a hint - this is, artistically, one of the the best, if not THE best H*E strip I've done so far. I think it has alot to do with the fact that I sketched out most of the poses and face on paper first and then scanned them in. All the final inking, placement, and alot of detail editing was done in photoshop, but the main drawing was done on paper.

I think I see a pattern here.

Anyway, I should probably credit Scott Kurtz with this one. I got the idea to do it this way based on a tutorial he put up on You Tube. I suppose to a lesser extent, Tim Buckly, since I saw virtually the same technique for his strip first, although he only did basic pose, and not facial expressions or costumes.

Anyway, I really felt guilty after that crappy art Tuesday update, and wanted to move the story along anyway. I may, or may not make that tuesday strip "cannon," although Alie's rack of Cluebats and other Bludgeoning Instruments probably means that it will be. The art on Tuesday was dreadfully rushed, and you can tell just from looking at it that this strip took at least three or four times longer to draw.

I think another thing that this strip illustrates is my complete lack of ability to do something simple. See, something like Able and Baker or What the Duck are completely out of my ability because I need to be visually creative. I mean, I try to do some simple concept, and as an automatic response, my mind goes into Cinematic mode and I start imagining all sorts of angles, and wipes. I so need to start doing more flash and 3D animations, just to sate this lust for moving pictures.

Webcomics!! Interesting story: Three Panel Soul is a new webcomic by the makers of MacHall. I wasn't particularly taken with Machall when I started reading it. It has decent enough art, so someone else might take a shining to it. They're servers are down at the time of writing this, so if the link doesn't work, wait a day or so and try again.

Anyway, TPS is interesting because of a recent story that happened with the writer. He was talking about buying a gun in his office, and was fired for it. When he posted it up on the comic, he was actually visited by the police. To think they would take such an obvious joke out of context.

The actual strip of the week, however, is A Softer World. I'm a sucker for abstract comics, and A Softer World satiates my appetite quite efficiently. It runs from hilariously absurd to depressingly tragic. Social commentary? Sure! A side of politics and religions? Why not? A Softer World also manages to keep the small, poetic captions visually stimulated by placing them in front of a new photograph with every update. My biggest beef with strips like Dinosaur Comics and Indie Tits are that they have static art (note, Indie Tits is currently on server change, and the url may not be active for awhile, if ever).

Check it out. They also make great printouts for your cupboard.
